(02) — The wait
What the wait does.
Three things happen before a plank is fastened.
The boxes sit in the room they will live in
Not in a warehouse, and not in a different suite. A condo unit can be drier or damper than the tower average. The boards meet that unit.
Air has to reach the boards
Cartons are opened and stacked with space between them. A sealed pile in the middle of the room does not acclimate.
The thermostat stays where you will keep it
We are matching the season of the install. Toronto winters often fall to 20–30% humidity. Summers can sit near 60–70% if the air is unmanaged. The target for an occupied room is about 35–55%.
Plan on three to five days
That window moves with the season, the room’s reading, and how far the delivered boards are from it. On a new build we wait until drywall, paint, and concrete have stopped throwing moisture. Installing into that spike is how gaps and buckles start.
Then the floor is fastened
Glue-down, nail-down, or floating. Engineered oak moves less than solid strip. It is not immune to moisture, so the wait stays on every job.

Where the window sits in the job.
Acclimation starts once the product is in the room where it will be installed. Cartons are stacked so air can move, and the HVAC runs at the occupied settings. Floors Toronto typically schedules 3–5 days, adjusted for the season, the room’s humidity reading, and how far the delivered boards are from that room.
On a new build or a heavy renovation, this starts only after drywall, paint, and concrete have had time to dry. Installing straight after those trades puts the floor into a temporary humidity spike. That order is confirmed with the general contractor.
