The corporation requires a rated underlay meant to float, or you want the floor unfastened to the slab. Labour is the $2–$3 planning band. Underlay is extra.
(01) — Floating

A floating installation locks together over underlay and is not fastened to the slab. Condo buildings ask for this when they want an acoustic layer. Underlay is its own line on the quote.
(03) — The process
The pad goes down before the oak.
A floating floor is not fastened to the slab. The building’s sound rule decides the pad. Then the boards lock together on top of it.

We write the building’s underlay requirement into the quote before we promise a method. If the building wants the floor glued instead, this is not the job.

A floating floor still needs a flat surface. We check moisture too. A high reading is dealt with before the pad goes down.

They sit in the suite, with heat and air conditioning at the settings you live with, toward 35–55% humidity.

The boards lock over the pad. A gap is left at the walls so the floor can move. Door and elevator sills are checked so they still clear.
(04) — The quote
Supply is one line. Labour is another.

(05) — Installation only
The oak can already be yours.
If it is hardwood, we can install it. Send the brand, the type, the square feet, and a photo of the box label. We look at the product and the subfloor before we name a method. Laminate and vinyl are not on this list.

We reply within one business day. If the job includes install, the reply separates supply from the method and the subfloor. If you want samples, we send them on the real oak. If a site measure is needed, we book it from that reply.

When is floating required instead of glue-down?
When the corporation requires a rated underlay that is meant to float. If the building allows an adhered floor and you want the plank bonded to the slab, the method is glue-down.
Is acoustic underlay included in the labour band?
No. Floating labour is a $2–$3 per square foot planning band. Acoustic underlay is its own line on the quote.
Can a herringbone floor be floated?
Only when that layout is approved for a float. Pattern is confirmed in the quote, not assumed. Herringbone or chevron labour is a $4.50–$5.50 planning band when it is.
Does a floating floor get a moisture test?
Yes. A float still needs a flat substrate, and a high moisture reading is remediated before underlay goes down.
Does Floors Toronto install hardwood it did not supply?
Yes, when the product is hardwood. We inspect it and the subfloor before we commit to a method. Laminate and vinyl are not on the list. Our 5-year workmanship warranty covers the installation we do. The manufacturer’s warranty stays with the manufacturer.
