Straight-to-cathedral grain and medullary ray fleck. Open pores take natural, grey, and brown stains with an even depth. Grade AB keeps the field controlled. Grade ABC adds knots without changing the species.
The core, not the name
What handles a Toronto year is the cross-ply core: 3/4 inch engineered, not solid strip. Winter heating often pulls rooms to 20–30% RH. Unmanaged summers can sit near 60–70%. Occupied rooms do best at 35–55%.

European suppliers often publish Brinell hardness. This oak commonly sits near 3.7–4.0 Brinell, in the same residential conversation as other white oaks. North American literature uses Janka. It is hard enough for daily wear. It is not a number we treat as a selling point on its own. On a Toronto slab, the engineered core matters more than the species slogan.
What formats of European white oak does Floors Toronto offer?
Straight plank at 7½, 9¼, and 10¼ inches, herringbone at 5 by 25 inches, and chevron at 5 by 25½ inches. Every format is 3/4 inch, with the same UV finish. Straight plank is Grade AB or ABC. Pattern floors are Grade AB.
Is European white oak good for Toronto condominiums?
Engineered European white oak is the practical real-wood path on a condo slab. It glues down when the slab is dry and the rules allow it, or floats over acoustic underlay when the corporation requires that package. Nail-down solid oak is not a concrete specification.
What finish does Floors Toronto use on European white oak?
A factory UV-cured aluminum oxide finish, in matte or satin. It is on every order. The sheen does not change the wear chemistry.
How does European white oak compare with red oak or maple?
European white oak shows refined grain and ray fleck, and it takes grey, natural, and brown stains evenly. Red oak tends to a bolder, pinker cast. Maple is often denser, with a closed grain that can blotch under stain. Floors Toronto stocks the engineered European white oak line, not red oak or maple.
Do you offer free stain matching on European white oak?
Yes, when you order. The stain is mixed on the oak, not on a paper chip. You approve the boards, and that batch is the one that gets installed. Named colours from finished projects are a starting set. Anything outside that set is matched the same way.
What humidity should I maintain after installing European white oak?
Occupied rooms do best near 35–55% RH. Toronto winters often fall to 20–30% indoors when the heat runs unmanaged, and summers can reach 60–70% without dehumidification. The engineered core moves less than solid strip. It does not replace a humidifier in January.
