Custom stain matching develops a formula on real European white oak samples, produces a batch-consistent new floor, and installs it. The reference is millwork, a paint code, a photograph, or an adjacent room. The colour is approved on the oak before production, then locked to that run.
We needed the new floor to match custom millwork — not a sand of the old strip oak. Floors Toronto’s sample process made that clear before we ordered.

Sanding the floor already down
Floor refinishing sands the boards already in the home, then applies a new stain and finish on site. Colour is judged on test patches after the sand, not on samples approved before a new floor is made.
That path fits when the existing hardwood is structurally sound and the only goal is a new colour or a refreshed finish. Refinishing is not Floors Toronto’s primary service. The primary model is the new floor above.
If the question is whether enough wear layer remains, that check belongs to the refinish or replace guide. This page does not make it. When there is no hardwood left to sand, or the wear layer is already gone, the job is new engineered oak.

Is Floors Toronto custom stain matching the same as floor refinishing?
No. Floors Toronto custom stain matching develops colour on new European white oak samples and produces a new floor for installation. Floor refinishing sands and re-stains boards already installed in your home — a different trade and workflow.
Can you match my cabinets on new engineered oak in Toronto?
Yes. Send millwork, paint codes, or physical samples. Floors Toronto prepares stain samples on real European white oak until you approve, then produces and can install the order across Toronto and the GTA.
When should I refinish instead of ordering new oak?
When your existing hardwood has enough wear layer left and the structure is sound, refinishing can change colour without full replacement. If there is no hardwood left to sand, or the wear layer is already gone, new engineered oak is usually required. The refinish or replace guide owns the wear-layer check.
Do you publish COI or IIC certificates on the website?
No. Floors Toronto provides COI, WSIB, and IIC/acoustic documentation on request for your specific building and product system so the package matches what the condo board asks for.
What does the Floors Toronto package cost?
Floors Toronto engineered oak supply starts from $4 per square foot. Custom stain matching is free when you order. Installation labour in the GTA commonly plans around $2–$3 per sq ft floating, $2.50–$4 per sq ft glue-down, glue-assist, or nail-down, and $4.50–$5.50 per sq ft for herringbone or chevron — guidance only, not a fixed rate card. Condo soft costs such as the elevator and acoustic underlay are quoted per building. The cost guide owns what moves the number. COI, WSIB, and IIC documentation are available on request.
